With labor shortages compounded by increasing maintenance needs, working faster and easier just makes sense. On November 21, 2022, GDOT District #5 maintenance crews repaired the concrete ditch at the Ramp from SR 73/US 301 to I-16 near Statesboro. The concrete ditch was undermined and broken. Instead of the traditional repair method, The RETEM System was selected.

Day #1: The undermined and broken concrete was removed, and the ditch reshaped. The polysheeting and steel were then installed and anchored.

Day #2: Crews began mixing concrete at 9:00AM and at 10:45AM had placed and finished 9 cubic yards. Crews used shovels, concrete rakes and garden rakes to place and finish the concrete.

The 3,000-psi concrete was mixed in District 5's volumetric mixer and placed with a 4-inch slump. Due to a steep slope, an excavator was used to place the concrete.

"The RETEM system was easy to install and a real time saver on finishing the concrete when compared to traditional ditch paving. This system allowed us to produce the finished product directly behind concrete placement and walk away"
